"Älä tee itsellesi jumalankuvaa äläkä mitään kuvaa, älä niistä, jotka ovat ylhäällä taivaassa, älä niistä, jotka ovat alhaalla maan päällä, äläkä niistä, jotka ovat vesissä maan alla.
Älä kumarra niitä, äläkä palvele niitä. Sillä minä, Herra (=EHJEH), sinun Jumalasi, olen kiivas Jumala, joka kostan isien pahat teot lapsille kolmanteen ja neljänteen polveen, niille, jotka minua vihaavat, mutta teen laupeuden tuhansille, jotka minua rakastavat ja pitävät minun käskyni" (2. Moos. 20: 4 -6).
"Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I thy Lord (= EHYEH) thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments" (Ex. 20: 4 - 6).
